How to increase Nikon Coolpix 950 flash range to 30 ft with Sensitivity & Slow Synchronization Photo tests showing effect on flash range of Sensitivity, Slow Synchronization & Exposure Compensation Original 1600 x 1200 images were resized to 640 x 480 with no unsharp mask except Test 5 and Setup taken in VGA mode Loading file, Please wait.... |
Test 1 - Flash Only (No Slow Synchronization)
1 Sensitivity = 0 (ISO=80), 2 Sensitivity = +1 (ISO=160),
Sensitivity = +2 (ISO=320)
Test 2 - Flash with
Slow Synchronization
1 Sensitivity = 0 (ISO=80), 2 Sensitivity = +1 (ISO=160) ,
Sensitivity = +2 (ISO=320)
Test 3 - Sensitivity =
0 (ISO=80)
Showing no effect of Exposure Compensation with flash except slight
color change for these conditions
Previous tests with flash in lighter conditions did show an effect of Exposure
Compensation
1 - Exposure Compensation = 0, 2 - Exposure Compensation = +1, 3 - Exposure
Compensation = +2
Test 4 -
Sensitivity = +2 (ISO=320)
Showing very little effect of Exposure Compensation with flash except slight
color change for these conditions
Previous tests with flash in lighter conditions did show an effect of Exposure
Compensation
1 - Exposure Compensation = 0, 2 - Exposure Compensation = +1, 3 - Exposure
Compensation = +2
Test 5 - No Flash
Showing very little effect of Exposure Compensation and Sensitivity without
flash for these conditions
Previous tests without flash in lighter conditions did show an effect of
Exposure Compensation and Sensitivity
1 - Exposure Compensation = 0 Sensitivity = 0
2 - Exposure Compensation = +2 Sensitivity = 0
3 - Exposure Compensation = 0 Sensitivity = +2 (ISO=320)
Setup Tests 1-5
Photo 1 is negative image of Test 2 Photo 3
Photos 2-7 taken in daylight 640x480 resolution
Test 6 - Flash Only (No Slow
Synchronization)
1 Sensitivity = 0 (ISO=80), 2 Sensitivity = 100, 3
Sensitivity = +1 (ISO=160), 4 Sensitivity = +2 (ISO=320)
These photos were taken April 11, 2003 at

Higher sensitivities show more color and detail from the dark distant areas
but have increasingly higher noise levels.
All images in these tests were processed with Paint Shop Pro 7.04 and saved with 25% jpeg compression.
